Obwohl man bei ihrem Namen glauben könnte, Lonestar hätten sich in Texas formiert, wurde das Quintett 1992 in Tennessee gegründet. Die ursprünglich unter dem Namen Texassee firmierende Band besteht aus Richie McDonald (Lead Vocals, Gitarre), John Rich (Lead Vocals, Bass), Michael Britt (Lead-Gitarre, Background Vocals), Dean Sams (Keyboard, Background Vocals) und Keech Rainwater (Schlagzeug). Alle Bandmitglieder stammen im Übrigen tatsächlich aus Texas...

Ihren ersten Auftritt hatten Lonestar im Januar 1993 im Backstage Pass in Nashville. Bei der Show war zufällig ein Booking-Agent anwesend. Beeindruckt nahm er die Gruppe unter seine Fittiche. In den nächsten beiden Jahren waren Lonestar kontinuierlich auf Tour und spielten fast 500 Shows. 1994 unterschrieben sie schließlich bei BNA Records. Im folgenden Jahr erschien das selbstbetitelte Debütalbum, das den Top-Ten-Hit "Tequila Talkin'" abwarf. 1997 folgte das Album "Crazy Nights", zwei Jahre später die dritte LP "Lonely Grill" mit dem Hit "Amazed", der es in Deutschland in die Airplay Charts schaffte und für den Durchbruch von Lonestar in Europa sorgte. Im Herbst 2000 erschien das Weihnachtsalbum "This Christmas Time", dem bereits im nächsten Frühjahr das Album "I'm Already There" folgte. Das neuste Werk ist "Let's be Us Again".
