Bereits im Teenageralter von 15 Jahren stand Kimberley Perry auf der Bühne. Ihre beiden Brüder Reid und Neil (10 und 8 Jahre) heuerte sie als ihre Roadies an. Später, als die Jungs auch anfingen Musik zu machen, spielten sie auf lokalen Veranstaltungen rund um ihre Heimatstadt Mobile, Alabama, als Vorgruppe für die Band ihrer Schwester.
2005 gründeten die drei Geschwister dann The Band Perry und drei Jahre später wurde Bob Doyle, Manager von Garth Brooks, auf sie aufmerksam und nahm sie mit in ein Aufnahmestudio. Doyle spielte die Demos Scott Borchetta vor, der das Trio dann für Republic Nashville (gehört zur Hälfte zur Universal Music Group) unter Vertrag nahm.
Die Debütsingle von The Band Perry, "Hip to My Heart", erreichte die Top 20 der Billboard Hot Country Song Charts. Im Sommer 2010 veröffentlichte die Band dann die Nachfolgesingle "If I Die Young", die es bis an die Spitze der Billboard Hot Country Song Charts schaffte und dem Trio eine Grammy-Nominierung für den besten Country Song einbrachte. In den USA wurde die Single mit Gold, für 500.000 digitale Downloads ausgezeichnet.
Das selbstbetitle Album erschien im Herbst 2010 in den USA, verkaufte in der ersten Woche 52.000 Einheiten und schaffte damit den Charteinstieg auf Platz 2 der Billboard Country Album Charts und auf Platz 4 der Billboard Top 200 (alle Genre), der höchste Charteinstieg einer Country-Gruppe seit 2006. Universal Music Germany veröffentlichte das Album am 11. Januar 2011. Das Album wurde zwischenzeitlich mit Platin, für eine Million an den Handel verschickte CDs ausgezeichnet. Auch die Singles waren nicht minder folgreich: "If I Die Young" (4fach Platin), "You Lie" (Gold) und "All Your Life" (Gold).
